Burnley Olympian Praised for Gold Medal

Aug 8 2012

Dear Sir,

I would like to personally congratulate Burnley born track cyclist Steven Burke who last week added his first Olympic gold medal in the Men’s Team pursuit to the bronze he won in the individual pursuit in 2008.

Burke is an excellent role model for young, aspiring athletes to follow as an example that Olympic champions can come from anywhere in the country. I hope that the performances of Burke, and his track cycling team, can inspire a new generation to take up competitive sports.

However, with this in mind, aspiring Olympians need not only role models, but accessible first class sporting facilities and high quality, affordable training. Only then can Team GB truly compete with the likes of China and USA in the medal table and be the world leaders in sport.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Nuttall,
