New survey welcomed
A new survey revealing that most people in this country want to leave the EU has been welcomed by local UKIP Euro-MP Paul Nuttall.
The online survey shows this is the national view by almost a 2:1 majority and a vast 83% majority would vote against the UK adopting the Euro.
“The results do not surprise me and it demonstrates that there must be a referendum to reflect the will of the people. But of course the major parties reject the wishes of the population,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader.
The Angus Reid poll shows that in the North of the country 28% would vote to stay in the the EU and 44% would vote to leave.
“It also reveals that in the North 58% agree with David Cameron’s rejection of a new treaty aimed at tightening fiscal rules for European countries that use the euro, and only 19% disagree.
“But of course Cameron has no intention of either giving us a referendum or leaving the EU and the City of London is still in jeopardy with the proposed Financial Transaction Tax.
“He must block this proposal which is not in our interests. It will be immensely damaging and cannot be allowed to happen,” said Mr Nuttall.
“It is not surprising that the only other country apart from Britain which is unhappy with the Franco-German proposal is Sweden. After all they are the only country to have introduced an FTT.
“Their Finance Minister, Anders Borg has explained that when they began taxing financial transactions in the 1980s, between 90%-99% of traders in bonds, equities and derivatives moved out of Stockholm to London.
“It brought in very little tax money while moving most of the businesses outside of Sweden and our country would suffer in the same way.
“The EU in its desperation to raise funds to support its failed economic experiment must not be allowed to destroy the City of London.”
